Children Gathering

A detailed pencil drawing on many of William’s interests in Nelson life, people, buildings, allotments and visiting fairs.

A small group of children gather in the rough ground often found by allotments, perhaps planning their visit to the travelling fairground, seen in the distance, or simply ‘making do’ with the simple pleasures to be found in their own conversation and play. The tension of the promise of the exotic and the reality of their budget. Around them, older figures encourage us to look further into the many narratives hidden with the drawing.
